At Kwekerij Dirk Mermans, the Aspidistra holds a special place in the family’s history. It was originally cultivated by Guido Mermans, Dirk’s father, who had a passion for timeless, characterful plants. In honour of his father, Dirk continues the tradition of growing Aspidistra today — making each plant a small part of the nursery’s heritage.

This green form is every bit as tough as its reputation suggests. It thrives in low light conditions, tolerates irregular watering and grows slowly but steadily — a perfect fit for plant lovers who appreciate beauty without fuss.

Due to slow growth and limited production windows, our Aspidistra plants are only available for a few months each year — typically from October to February, or until sold out.
