The Aspidistra elatior ‘Milky Way’ is one of those plants that quietly steals the show — elegant, timeless, and almost impossible to find. Its deep green leaves are sprinkled with creamy-white speckles, as if dusted with starlight — the reason behind its celestial name.

At Kwekerij Dirk Mermans, this variety carries a special story. It was first cultivated by Guido Mermans, Dirk’s father, who had a lifelong passion for strong and characterful plants. To this day, Dirk continues to grow the Aspidistra in honour of his father — making it more than just a plant, but a small piece of family heritage.

The Milky Way is as tough as it is beautiful. Like all Aspidistra, it tolerates low light, irregular watering and neglect far better than most houseplants — making it a true classic among indoor greenery.

Due to slow growth and limited production, the Aspidistra ‘Milky Way’ is available only for a few months each year — typically from October to February, or until sold out.
